x Christopher x
x school Hi there, I am responding to a line of posts you may not remember writing a year or so ago reagrding sick kids and a story shared to you about Christopher, a 5 1/2 year old with neuroblastoma..to which you replied I wonder if this is even true or not...
I am reseraching Chris because he is 7 now and once again sick.. we all worry the cancer has returned.
I just want to say in light of knowing this fabulous little boy, your posts are horrific!!
It is not Chris's fault that the hospital trying to save his life needs money.
Next time ..I urge you to take a moment to think before you beak off, on line if it were a child you love more than the world, that was sick you would soon learn that the salary of the doctor or needs of the hospital would not matter. You would want that child saved at all costs and if someone were able to save him or her you would be willing to give them the world.
Everyone who is touched by Chris, is touched with a gift and to here his name used in this kind of a discussion, where people question his struggles as fictional and worry that the staff who in fact may save his life are paid too much...it is sickening!! What is your life worth and how much would you like to see the doctor paid that could save it?

x jeffwith1f sanctimony over disgust at guilt inducing junk mail?
posted in Billy's birthday thread?

a) this is an inappropriate and somewhat random place for this note of disapproval. please try to be more resourceful in the future. If you made it this far, you surely could have found the proper thread.

b) my personal disapproval of bulk mail in no way should have been interpreted as a lack of care over real people's real problems. I never suggested that Christopher was not real (that was someone else). It is interesting that you seem to be under the impression that I am blaming a piece of junk mail and the style of it's appeal (that I happen to disagree with) on the child himself. My beef is not even with the appeal for a good cause, it is with the people that set the tone of the campaign, namely; Preying on guilt. "Give us money or the puppy gets it" is frankly base and offensive.

c) if you are concerned about getting resources to assist your sick friend, perhaps you should take it up with the people that decided to spend money to send a piece of bulk mail to a fictional entitiy asking for money. Surely they could have put the resources spent on this to better ends, no? At the very least, a more tasteful appeeal.

d) in fact I am personally quite and chronically ill. I spend alot of time with many doctors now. I have also had the opportunity to watch how doctors and health professionals care for other members of my family and friends over this time. In general, I am not impressed.

Sure, as with any walk of life, there are exceptionally skilled and competent people working within this profession, but there are also a raft of others that can't find thier own asses with a flashlight, two hands, a GPS device and a special ass-finding map.

So. I believe I am in a position to offer an opinion here (and it is just an opinion). My life is worth no more or less than anyone elses. I think doctors should be paid as well as any other skilled professional. Let's say 60k - 80k in general. That is an excellent living wage, and well ahead of many other people that also work very very hard.

I suspect, but conceed I don't know for sure, that many doctors earn well in excess of this. Perhaps they could take some of that money and provide treatment and needed equipment for the sick children?

Failing that, how about simply asking people to donate to a good cause instead of attempting to manipulate the general public with guilt?
