x Universal Sea helping set up the new online division for a major advertising firm

pros: responsibility, megacash
cons: too corporate? no freedom as in current lifestyle?

details to come, it's happening quick, I have leverage too as my life ain't that bad as it is.

x Universal Sea shit.... I got it!!

superb meeting with the boss today, and tuesday we discuss pay, moving forward. I can maintain my current clients and projects. Try for 6 months, I'd have huge input, good role, good company. Wow.

x jeffwith1f this will help afford swank new digs.
unless they are terribly invasive into your private life, I have found that even corporate gigs allow for current lifestyles.
its just a question of balance, and ensuring that you are there for work during working time. I don't mean present and I don't mean 9-5 either. I mean, in some respects being able to work your paying job means doing it when it needs to be done and doing it well, and being present and in the moment when doing it. You just can't live for your job, and your job only. everything else about your life still needs it's place, and any good employer understands that.

good luck

x Universal Sea its called life in the fast lane, jeff

they were too disorganised, it was a yell type behind back talkin shit atmosphere, and they didnt have a clue about web stuff... when the shit hit the fan they resorted to just needing a monkey to churn out flash ads... thereby wasting their time and mine being there. Despite being assured I could maintain my own clients, I quickly saw that it wouldn't be realistic. So... the cash or the stress wasn't worth it.

its all good, that experience has quickly come and gone.

x jeffwith1f I am learning how insane advertising can be.
actually, it's much the same as many quasi disfunctional software companies that I've worked for, just at 3X the pace.

x Marc advertising agencies are shite....

we compete with them, and regularly beat them on price and quality....

they have no idea... NO IDEA... how to organize things....

they overcharge... work long hours... and hope for the best....

stay away.

x Universal Sea they better pay the two days work I invoiced them, I will pursue it.

they are shit indeed and im staying away. Right now I'm doing a nice sized, quick contract for a smaller advertising firm. I don't mind working with them... for them is another matter.

certainly there's got to be good ones though

x Marc Ad agencies don't deal with their clients properly.

The customer is allowed to change their mind forever as long as they're charged for it. In the end, the customer pays more for the same thing they could have had if they were given proper direction from the agency.

Decisions on artistic direction, for example, need to be firmed up early on. The client CAN change their mind at the end and ask for a re-do but why would they want to pay for that ? If somebody just explained to them from the outset the implications of changing their mind later, they would think things through better.

x Universal Sea I do that with my clients... its understandable

my quotes are usually bang on anyway and leave little room for having to go back and re-do design or add features after something's been set up a certain way. So.. they pay.
