x AudioHeaven It can be outdoor or indoor, but it has to be the most memorable gig that you went to, and why.

Mine was Metallica Big Day Out.

Apart from the huge amount of us that went on the coach, we all got sunburned, totally hammered and it was the first time I'd seen Matallica live. I was soooooo ill the next day but it was worth it.

My beloved and I lost an hour or two as well..........

Close second was REM, again at Milton Keynes bowl. Me and Obijazz ripped off the coca cola stand and got free drinks. Got sunburned then too.
The support was meant to be the Cranberries who I wasn't keen on, but it was Blur instead who I was really into at the time. Blinding!

REM are fucking great live!

Classic!

x Universal Sea it's also metallica. this is quite obvious - it's the concert that inspired me to form what is now Universal Metropolis and I was so in awe of their performance that I vowed that one day I would be doing that myself.

April 13th, 1993 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore

ten years ago next Sunday, I can thank them for UM.

x AudioHeaven A bunch of us went to see Rage Against the Machine a few years back, and as we were stuck in the seated bit (boo!) my mate Dan lept over the barriers into the mosh pit. The bouncers pulled him out and he had to listen to the rest of the gig outside!!!

Gutted.

x AudioHeaven The wonderful thing about music is its Versatility! Imagine if people only like one type - god how boring would that be? Besides mowtown and soul have influenced some great stuff.

I don't know how you'd class her, I have to admit I'm not too knowledgeable about that music genre, but I really like some of Nina Simone's stuff. I think she has a great voice.

x ste-van-nee not sad at all, everybody has different tastes. i have such a varied collection, from heavy metal like ac/dc, death metal such as marilyn manson, plus albums by people such as bruce springsteen, meatloaf, heart, cher, richard marx, queen etc. its good to be flexible. actually im really toying with the idea of going to see meatloaf this year, his final world tour! need some1 to go with though, gonna ask about to see who fancies it.

x AudioHeaven I bet that was really good actually. I don't like all the music they did, but the early stuff I really liked. There's a song on the Yellow Submarine movie, Nowhere Man or something, that I've always liked since I was little kid.

I wonder what John Lennon would be like if he was still alive........actually, thats given me an idea for a thread.

x Is he really good live? x
x AudioHeaven He's done a couple of blinding songs, but there's also some I'm really not keen on.

I'm not sure if I'd go to see him live, but then I haven't REALLY been to a huge amount of gigs. I stick to people I really, really want to see. However, now you've said that I may have to think about giving it a go. I'd love to go to Dublin too.

The only gig I ever saw not by concious choice was a Hawkwind concert my Dad dragged me to when I was 13. Never seen so many blokes with beards and leathers in one place in my life since!

Not even at Metallica Big Day Out! Scary shit for a 13 year old!

x me too x
x Universal Sea i can't remember going to a bad concert. some were less entertaining than others but the one's i've gone to have usually been good.

other than the crap no doubt in new york city/long island in 1997 one with my ex. getting there was the biggest pain in the ass, through the biggest ghettos and black-controlled areas of brooklyn. wound up in the middle of a city centre where there were groups of four cops every couple of blocks. looked like a military zone. we went up to some and said, "hi, are we near nassau colisieum yet"? and they laughed at us then looked frightened and said "do you know where you are???" Not a good neighbourhood. We got funny looks from all quarters. Aside from half the cops we were the only white people for miles. Had to get on a bus (not segregated) and eventually got there.

we paid hundreds of dollars through a scalping agency in toronto for floor tickets. maybe two people were smoking pot in the whole area of thousands of people? nobody would share it or sell it. we nearly got killed in the moshpit area and i had to bash some people in the head to give us space to get through. a very interesting experience.

when it was over we circled the place thinking about trying to get backstage (we essentially met backstage at a concert). then gave up and decided to go back to our hotel. at the train station we temporarily befriended another couple. the guy was marketing manager at the Hard Rock Café in Manhattan and he gave us our number, told him to hit him up for a free meal at the restaurant during our stay. I won't comment on that experience or how no doubt sold out soon after but i will always remember it.

I also saw no doubt at a smaller club when they first started out and it was a great concert, wanted to pay hundreds to seem them again. waste of money really.

x david gray x
x bacardi AudioHeaven the good thing about seeing david gray live is he plays a varied set covering songs going back years,so there is quite a good mixture of styles.some of his better known stuff like 'please forgive me and babylon'are magic live because the whole band really get into the songs,'please forgive me' usually lasts 10 minutes at a gig and that blows me away, add Dublin into the mix and it makes for a sound night out,and if you get the chance to go to Dublin then definetly go, great guiness, food and wicked nightlife.
